Celebrating a birthday in Nuwara Eliya

Hi,

My girlfriend and I will be travelling to Sri Lanka shortly, and her birthday falls during a 2-night stay in Nuwara Eliya.

I have already booked accomodation, and plan to head to Horton Plains/World's End the day after her birthday, but was wondering whether anyone can suggest some particularly good (or unusual) ways to celebrate in Nuwara Eliya.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi there,

Reserve a table in the upmarket restaurant of Tea Factory Hotel.

Unique in its kind, but 45 mins drive from Eliya town.

All the best,

<Erik> & [Sandya]

Hi,

Just to add, you can order a cake and flowers from the hotel too..

I have been to a potato farm across Lake Gregory which had the most magnificent views at dusk. But it maybe hard to reach without a 4WD. The mountain was of patna grass and the moon was rising from one side and the sun was setting on the other and we could see the lights in the town like fallen fire flies!

There is also a lookout point at Shanthipura, the highest village in Sri Lanka. Go there at dusk to see the lights in the town.

If you like the feeling of being back home, try the Hill Club for dinner.

There's also Grand Hotel and St Andrew's to choose from for dinner options ....

Interesting thread. I should say the train carriage dinner still wins, esp for someone coming from the UK.

If you're staying in town, dinner at the Golf club will be a better experience than the Grand Hotel.

St. Andrews might be a hit and a miss. I think they are still under going renovations
