farmers market on game day

Is it crazy to try to go to the farmers market on a Badger football game day?? Where is the best place to park? Or will there be any? Where is the best place for breakfast and a good bloody mary downtown by the market?

It's a bit crazy but you could still try if that's your only time to go.

For parking I'd try the lots near the Great Dane. Try Plaka Taverna for breakfast; it's close by. No idea about good bloodies.

I usually stay far away from downtown on game days but you'll be about 2 miles from Camp Randall. Good luck.

I had great breakfast last March watching all the excitement on the square at Graze which is the cafe run by the L'Etoile people. The view is wonderful and the food is good. There is a bar.

If it's an 11 AM game, which it usually is, you can pull it off. Where are you staying?

If your hotel has a shuttle, you can walk to or get dropped off at the market, and then walk, shuttle, cab or even bus to the stadium from the square. It's 15 blocks from the Capitol building to the stadium and it's mostly downhill and then flat.

We also have rent-a-bikes now all over downtown that you can ride to the Stadium and back, if that appeals.

If you're planning to drive everywhere, though, you will have traffic and parking challenges. It's best to park once early in the day in one of the ramps or at Lot 60, and leave the car there until after the game traffic has cleared campus.

If you like a rowdy pre-game atmosphere, I recommend finding a bar with a shuttle to the game. Hilldale has a farmer's market, too, for example, and there are several bars nearby that provide shuttles to the game.

Give us a little more information on your plans, and we can give you great advice! Which game are you coming to see?

We are staying at the Hilton Garden in Middleton. We aren't actually going to the game-just a girls weekend that happens to be a game weekend! Thanks for all the tips so far!

Marigold's has a great breakfast, it can be a little hectic and no bloody mary's but the food is outstanding, try the breakfast sandwich! There are many places to get a good bloody mary. There is an Irish pub right on the square called Brocach that has a good bloody mary and serves a traditional Irish breakfast. Genna's on Main Street also has an awesome build your own bloody mary bar.
