We are a family of 3 currently in New Orleans on holiday. We have as part of our trip a rental car and we are driving along the Natchez Trace (staying at Marshall, Natchez, French Camp, Tupelo, Nashville and final drop off at Chicago. Also going to mammoth cave, bourbon & whiskey trail.

My question is will we be okay with Google / Apple maps driving around or do we need a GPS from the rental car company

Thank u

You should be fine with Google/Apple maps. You should download maps of the places you intend to go to for offline use because you will certainly run into areas with no service.

We did our entire road trip, including into NOLA and back out again using Google Maps on our phone, no problem at all :)

Use Waze to get decent traffic reports along with general GPS (directions), especially in urban areas such as NOLA, Baton Rouge, Memphis, Nashville, Louisville, Chicago. There are a couple of dead areas along the Trace but it's never given me a problem. It's become my go-to app now.

I used it recently between NOLA and Knoxville.

Thanks very one and will travel without a GPS. So far been here 5 days and loving the place. Just not enough time and wish a chance to see more jazz and blue bands.
