Wedding in NO October 2008

Hi. My daughter is planning a New Orleans wedding in October of 2008. It will be a small wedding (20-40 people would be my guess). She wants to keep costs down. Looking for a somewhat non-traditional venue (probably would have the ceremony and reception at the same place - not a religous ceremony). Might be a roaring twenties theme. Napolean House looks good. Is it? Any other suggestions?

Are you only looking to hold the wedding in the Quarter? You might want to check out New Orleans City Park. There are several venues within the park, both outdoor and indoor. The catering is fabulous!

October is a nice time of year to visit...the summer heat has usually faded, especially later in the month.

Good luck!

Thank you Caseyno.

I contacted the park and the Peristyle is available to rent for a wedding. It looks very nice in the picture but I wonder if it i still looks that way post Katrina. I also wonder what the surrounding area in the park looks like. Any idea?

The Peristyle is in the area of the park that was restored first. The area surrounding it is also in fine shape, thanks to thousands of volunteers who helped to restore it, as well as continue to care for it.

It is a beautiful facility and the perfect size for the number of guests that you mentioned. The event and catering staff should be able to help you pull together a great wedding!

To me October is one of the nicest months...not a lot of rain and cooled down from the summer heat..thats why the conventions have a big month in October for booking.

I second Cajunyank's recommendation for City Park. It's a gorgeous setting for a wedding.

October is our best month weather-wise, with rainfall at a minimum. Temperatures are also not too hot, not too cool.

The Voodoo Music Festival takes place this year on Oct 26-28th, and is traditionally staged the weekend just before Halloween. The Park is huge...nearly twice the size of NYC's Central Park, so there is always plenty of activity no matter where you are. There shouldn't be a conflict, but check with the event staff if you are planning on that weekend.

As to the earlier comment about the park "not being what it once was", locals often joke that it's actually better! It's one of those things that we seem to appreciate more, having nearly lost it, and the scores of volunteers have made it a really beautiful place.

We've attended several functions over the past year and a half (adult and children's parties) and have enjoyed every one of them!

That being said, no matter where in the city you celebrate the wedding, NO is a great place to get married! Enjoy!

Well, I'd first like to say congrat's on the up and coming wedding, New Orleans is an absolutly amazing city to get married in. My wife and I were married there last year October 31, talk about non-traditional we got married in front of cemetary #1, lol. The city has a wide variety of locations for the event and if I may recommend the French Quarter Wedding Chapel, they provide an amazing service and are incredibly helpful on such a stressful event. They are also able to provide the service in any number of locations selected by you and at a price we found more than resonable. Definatly worth checking out. www.frenchquarterwedding.com

We were in New Orleans in late May and spent most of one day at City Park and had a great time. We walked by the Peristyle, there was a group picnic being held, a lovely venue in a wooded grove across from some tennis courts. The Peristyle is a short walk to the Bishoff Scuplture Garden, the NO Museum of Fine Art and the Botantical Gardens. All worthy of a visit.

You might consider chartering a small bus to transport your party to the Park. We took the Canel streetcar but it is about 3/4's of a mile walk from the streetcar drop off to Peristyle. Caseymo may have a suggestion for transport.

City Park, the Peristyle, Museum, Botanical Gardens areas is definatley open for business and worthy of a visit.

This link should take you to the NOAA site, click on October for daily highs and lows, looks lovely for October.
