embers restaurant for wedding night meal?

What is your opinion of Embers on Bourbon for wedding night meal. Entire wedding group (16-20 people) are from PA and most have never been to NOLA and are not sure about the food. Some of the guys want to stick to steak and potatoes, some want to try NO foods...so we are looking for inexpensive place, with a diverse menu.

I'll be blunt...it's a terrible idea, unless your party's very uneducated and undemanding about food, in which case you'll be fine. Weddings hopefully are a once in a lifetime event, so spend some bucks and do yourself and your friends a favor and set something up at a good local restaurant where your dining experience will be memorable. There are MANY choices with rooms for private parties that can do this - Ralph's on the Park, upstairs at Galatoire's, Cafe Adelaide, etc. Louisiana Bistro is not expensive and is in the Quarter. Feelings Cafe is a very NOLA experience and is not expensive. If you are serious about research, I recommend going to the "Talk Food with the Locals" forum on www.neworleans.com. Life is too short to travel a 1000 miles to one of the best food towns in America and eat cheap tourist food.

THANK YOU!

Will keep looking. Just by going by the menu it seemed Embers had a little of everything we were looking for. The bride, groom and a few of us will try anything and the couple LOVE NO food....it's the rest of the group who are hesitant to step out of their comfort zone and try new things....so trying to PLEASE them has become a chore....

If you want a relatively inexpensive place with a diverse menu of good food, check out Jacques Imo's.

I'll also second the vote for Feelings.......good food, good service, reasonable prices, and great ambiance.

Another -- basic, cheap (18 per) fun, excellent service (usually) is Praline Connection. Original large place in he warehouse district, and a smaller branch on Frenchman St in the Fouberg Marigny area, lower Quarter -- close to three good jazz clubs for after dinner.

It's Southern/soul food, grits, greens, corn bread. Entres seafood or fried chicken (don't remember if any steaks - check their web site) This is informal, down homey, checkered table cloths, etc., if you want an informal dinner after the wedding...... or perhaps on one of the days before.

Thanks about Praline Connection. We went there in Jan and tried their sampler platter... Would go there again and she was thinking of a group orientation type meal but not for the "wedding night meal".

I looked up Feelings and tried to email them...

looks perfect, now we shall see what the bridal couple think.

Will keep you posted
