Self Parking/Downtown French Quarter Dec 2008

I will be staying at the Marriott in December. Does anyone know of any self parking garages that can be used that would be a lesser rate than the $30.00 or so the Marriott charges for valet parking? I will be staying Thurs-Tues and need a garage where I can leave the car for several days? Any info would be helpful! Thanks!

Harrah's casino parking garage (a few blocks away from the Marriott on Canal St) offers free parking for 24 hrs for anyone who plays 30 minutes or more in the casino.

Otherwise, there are parking garages on St. Charles Ave (2 blocks away) that should be cheaper than the $30/day for valet.

Thanks, that is the info I needed. Do you know a ballpark idea of what the rates are at the other garages? Thanks!

I would estimate between $20-25. There is also a $15 overnight lot on Poydras St (a few blocks away from Canal St).

Is this a rental car or your own car? If you need to leave the car unused for "several days", can you skip renting it and use a cab for other stuff? If it is your own car, you could drive around town a bit and see if there is a neighborhood spot to leave the car for a handful of days, like on Elysian Fields or any number of other streets. Check with the parking lots for their longterm rates. The $30 per day at the Marriott is not unusual and if you want safety, it's an average good-deal in any major downtown city.

There is a garage in the heart of the Downtown/ French Quarter that offers $15 Valet Overnight Parking. There is a coupon to print out from their website here. premiumparkingservice.com/promo_overnight.sh…

This 30 minutes of gaming, could I play like a 30 minutes of penny or nickel slots where I put in a penny or nickel in every minute or so. Does that work or is there a amount played minimum in that 30 minutes?

As of last May it did include the Penny Slots, I used Harrah's garageit for two of the days of our trip. Worked out fine, lost a few bucks the first day, won a few the 2nd and had a couple free(don't forget to tip though) drinks while I played.
