Where to find a Thanksgiving buffet in or around New Orleans

We're new to the area and haven't gotten around to far yet. We're looing for a place that has a buffet for families on Thanksgiving. Any suggestions?

Buffets don't seem to be as popular in New Orleans as they are in the rest of the country. Harrah's Casino does have a buffet, and Courtyard of Two Sisters has a buffet. Maybe some local experts can advise of others.

Oops, I just re-read your post and see that you are asking about a buffet for families, so I assume you mean kids...that rules Harrah's out.

Buffets are far and few between in New Orleans, and they usually are of poor/mediocre quality; this is my biggest gripe with Court of Two Sisters.

As for a Thanksgiving buffet, Cafe Giovanni (a pretty good Italian restaurant) offers a buffet. It's pricey though. http://www.cafegiovanni.com/thanksgiving1.htm

Personally, I'd just go to a regular restaurant for Thanksgiving lunch/dinner.

Check out Le Pavillon Hotel. It's located downtown in the CBD on Poydras Street. They are offering a Champagne Jazz brunch from 11 am - 3 pm. The cost is $59 for adults and $28 for kids. Here is what's on the menu:

Seafood Gumbo or Roasted Red Pepper & Eggplant Soup

Carving Station: Turkey with Cranberry Sauce & Prime Rib with Au jus

Breakfast Items: Bananas Foster Waffle Station; Eggs benedict; Apple Smoked Bacon;

Buffet Items: Cajun Rice; Corn Bread Dressing; Sweet Potato Casserole; Merliton Casserole; Green Beans Almondine; Grilled Red Fish with a Crawfish cream sauce; Paneed Veal and Crabmeat; Boiled Shrimp with Cocktail and Remoulade Sauce; Marintated Crab Claws; Smoked Salmon; Oysters Bienville

Children’s Corner: Fried Chicken Tenders; Macaroni & Cheese

Reservations are recommended. Their website is www.lepavillon.com. Hope this helps!

Well, in years past, many of the downtown and FQ hotels had large Thanksgiving buffets and were very suitable for families. Check the Royal Sonesta hotel and Chateau Sonesta Hotel. One of those is where my family and I had a decent T-day brunch buffet a few years ago. If you get a chance, check the Times-Picayune Lagniappe section (local newspaper, Friday pullout guide). Sometimes there are ads for Thanksgiving dinner far in advance, esp since the reservations get filled up fast.

The Rib Room on Royal in the OMNI has an excellent Thanksgiving buffet, plus I have a friend who lives in the Quarter and never misses the Thanksgiving buffet at the Westin in Canal Place.
