This will be our 17th time in 10 years coming to New Orleans, this year we decided to do something differant, we are going to stay in the lower garden district, at the Prytania Park Hotel. Just had friends return last week, and they just loved it. How far would it be to Magazine St, where all the shops are, any good eats places?. Thanks

It's only a few blocks to Magazine St, and there are shops and cafes all down its length. I personally like the stretches of Magazine St between Washington and Napoleon and the Jefferson to Nashville. Have to try the oysters at Casamento's on Magazine, followed by gelato at Sucre or La Divina Gelateria. Other good bets: Joey's K, Lilette, Mahoney's Po-boys, etc.

double check on maqquest or google maps for mileage because if you are going to walk, it's a bit of a hike to all the great stuff on Magazine St. If I remember correctly, Prytania park Hotel is near MLK and the sections that have more restaurants, and shops are further uptown.
