Restaurant recs please.

We`re coming to NO in a few weeks time and I need some suggestions for restaurants that serve good local food. We`ll be staying at the Downtown La Quinta on Camp Street so, ideally, they`ll be within easy walking distance of there. (Although we`re prepared to consider public transport or taxi for somewhere exceptional!)

For real good local food real close to La Quinta, consider Bon Ton Cafe (a very upscale cafe), but it's only open Monday - Friday. A bit of a walk, but very good and very local, Cochon.

When I visited New Orleans last year we ate at Mother's. Mmmmm, it was so good. The fried fish and red beans and rice; bread pudding; also great breakfast! But there is usually a line waiting to get in as it isn't a large place. You should definitely try it.

There's a place a block away from the La Quinta called Cuvee. It's on Magazine St.

It's upscale and probably not typical of local food but it does get good reviews.

Or, you could walk 3 blocks to Olivier's Creole Restaurant.

Mother's and Bon Ton,as recommended, might be better if you're on a budget.
