The final countdown has begun!!!

In exactly 30 days, my plane shall be just taking off from Toronto going towards NO! This after catching my 1st flight from Moncton at 6am. It's still surreal to me that I'll be in NO once again, for trip#3!! (and I have trip #4 in the works too?? Almost too much for the mind to comprehend).

So, what am I doing today? While watching a NO travel DVD (Globetrekker), I am starting to get all of my travel and hotel confirmations, to do list, etc organized. With 3 trips in 1 (after NO, I'll be heading to Memphis and then St Pete Beach, FL), I've got to get my stuff sorted out.

In case you're interested, here's my itinerary for this trip:

Thursday (arrival day): today I just walk around with a grin that goes from ear to ear, letting it sink in that I'm actually in the Quarter again, sipping a hurricane while I'm doing it. I also want to go listen to all my favorites bands: Dwayne Dopsie (hopefully) at Krazy Korner, Dwayne Burns at Maison Bourbon, Willie Lockett wherever he may be, and I want to try to go see The Bonoffs as I've yet to hear them.

Friday: Today is Faubourg Marign day! I plan on visiting the neighborhood during the day to take pixs and what not,and then return in the evening for all of this fabulous music everybody talks about. And in the middle of all this? It's margarita day!!! And yes, I shall be going to El Gato Negro.

Saturday: I think I'll do a tour with VIP tours in the am. I really wanted to get to the Lower 9th somehow to see the progress since 2009, and I also wanted to visit another cemetery (previously saw Louis#1). This tour goes to both places, as well as visit the city. On my 1st trip, I had done a city/Katrina tour with Tours by Isabelle, but it was really a Katrina tour (they've since taken out the word city in the title of this tour). The afternoon will be spent at Pat O's dueling piano bar. The piano bar is open 7 days a week, but I find there's a different feel on Saturday afternoons, everybody is there to sing and have a good time. And then it'll be Bourbon St in the evening.

Sunday: I shall make my mother proud, and go to church at St Augustine's. Then to Buffa's for breakfast and their jazz band after mass. If I can, the Katrina Exhibit will be today (but probably will wait til Tuesday), and again Bourbon St in the evening.

Monday & Tuesday: this will be day 5 & 6 of my trip, and past experience has thought me that my feet and body will be mad at my by this time with all the fun we're having all of a sudden since I never take it anywhere's at home, so I'm planning accordingly this time. :-) Today and Tuesday's schedule are interchangeable. I will be doing the Natchez cruise, a trip to the Columns Hotel, visit the Katrina Exhibit if I didn't have a chance on Sunday (Tuesday as it's closed on Monday), and take it more easy. I lot of sitting, sipping on a beverage while listening to some great music and people watching will be happening these 2 days.

And of course there's always the usual stuff of going to the French Market, the Music Factory on Decatur for some CD's, hopefully find another peice of art (I'll worry about having to travel to 2 other cities with it once I'm there), wander up and down all those wonderful streets and shops. I have a long list of place I want to make sure to go check out. Sigh, I can't wait!

So excited for you porelly! I know you won't be able to sit still for the next 30 days. And after this trip you will still be in planning mode for the May visit-which means not so sad this time. Can't wait to hear your TRs.

Hey porelly - I'm jealous!!! Sounds like you have a lot of fun stuff planned. I'm putting the Columns Hotel on my list for next May, We have been past it several times but never stopped for a drink. We stayed at a b&b in the Marigny on our last trip (April 2010!) and I loved the neighborhood. You will enjoy walking around there. Are you taking Amtrak to Memphis?

Can't waot ti see you next May!!

Sounds like a great itinerary, Porelly. Sat. afternoon would be a great time for Pat's Piano Bar...I like it when there's enough action to be lively.

I know what you mean, porelly - our count is down to 23 days! We don't really have an itinerary - after visiting New Orleans ohhhhh, probably about 20 times in the past 15 years we finally gave up and fly by the seat of our pants while we're there. Our only plans are to meet up with KCK sometime during this trip and that's really high on my list, but as for the rest of the time.....I'm thinking your statement about wandering around with a goofy grin on my face will probably cover most of the time!

KCK, I'd love to meet up if you happen to be in town that week-end. One less name and face to remember next May. :)

Axle, txs for the restaurant list. I think Memphis is going to be like NO, too many restaurants and not enough meals. I'll probably be going to the Rendezvous that 1st night as it's next to the hotel, I'm staying at the Holiday Inn, and will probably be looking for something to eat as the train only gets in at 10pm.

And yes JLR, I am taking the Amtrak train to Memphis. I'm looking forward to it actually. I might not say that after being on it for 8hrs, but right now, I'm excited.
