Magazine Street Recommendations?

Hi everyone, we're starting to plan the details of our June trip back to our favorite city (yay!). Last trip (June 2010) we very briefly visited Magazine Street (lunch at Joey K's and drinks at the Bull Dog); this trip we'd like to explore a bit more and check out some shops. Could you all please recommend your favorite areas of Magazine, and even your favorite shops? Also we're looking for a budget lunch stop not far from The Bull Dog as we'd love to stop there again for some refreshments. Joey K's was good, but we'd like to try somewhere different. Thanks in advance!

I love Magazine Street. I would take the bus, streetcar (walk from St Charles) or a cab to the Bulldog and then just keep walking. Cassamentos is great or Atchafalaya (short walk) if you want something more upscale.

I would take the bus or streetcar to the 3,000 block area and walk W to the 5,000 block area. Bouligny Tavern is a great bar in the Garden District that's a next door branch to Lilette which is a French bistro. The drinks at Lilette are weak but everything on the cocktail list at Bouligny Tavern is respectable. I'm not sure who the bartender is. And I'm not sure I would venture beyond the menu either. The room is gorgeous and it's a fun scene. The food is good too.

Bouligny Tavern @ 3641 Magazine Street New Orleans, LA 504 - 891 -1810.

Which day of the week do you plan to visit? Keep in mind that a lot of places are closed on Sunday and others are closed on Monday. There are still more closed some random day of the week, but Sundays are the big one.

Other than the places mentioned, I'll add Guy's Po-Boys in the 5200 block of Magazine as a great budget option.

My favorite shops on Magazine are located in the Lower Garden District between Felicity and Jackson, then uptown starting just above the Garden District all the way up to Audubon Park. If you stop walking at the 5000 block of Magazine, you'll be in a mostly residential stretch. Keep going up to the 5600 block of Magazine. The stretch between Jefferson and the Whole Foods has some of the best stores on Magazine. Hazelnut in the 5500 block is a personal favorite:
