Smoking in restaurants and music venues?

Do they allow it inside?

Yeah, I'm from California where it's banned in restaurants, so not used to the taste of cig interweaving with my food! :P

I'm also asthmatic and smoke does bother me sometimes if I'm around a lot of it. (However it doesn't bother my asthma half as much as people dipped from head to toe in heavy perfume or cologne!)

So what's the smoking situation in New Orleans? Just want to be prepared, thanks! :)

No smoking allowed in restaurants, but allowed in bars. However, unless you are sitting next to someone who's smoking, it shouldn't be a problem. All bars and clubs have these really big fans that circulates the air, sometimes too much as it can be cold, and all doors will be open creating more air flow. I wouldn't worry to much about it.

Lots of great music venues are smoke free--check out Hermes Bar, Irvin Mayfields's Jazz Playhouse, and Carousel Bar in the French Quarter, dba on Frenchmen St, Chickie Wah Wah on Canal (easy Streetcar ride there from teh French Quarter, great music).
