New to Mardi Gras

Been to NOLA before, but, coming all the way from the UK, this is our first Mardi Gras. Staying at Prince Conti onlt a block or so from Bourbon Street.

What to expect? What to wear? Where to go to see everything?

Can't wait but don't have a clue what to expect because the city surprised us so often last time!

Any advice?

This coming weekend & Lundi/Mardi Gras will be the biggest for parades and people. It is always big fun, you should costume on Mardi Gras day or multiple and since you right in the quarter you are going to see everything that you want to see. Just depends on what you want to see. The Bourbon Street awards at noon on Mardi Gras day are fun to see. They are down in the 800 block of Bourbon. Other than that, just wander around, don't get stuck on Bourbon St. all day

A Krewe of Zulu coconut is always special if you can get one.

Wear a costume - at least a mask. Start early, drink often and pass out late. The only thing to NOT do is urinate in the street...almost anything else goes - at least in the Quarter.

Let the Good Times Roll - Lent starts Wednesday and if you did Mardi Gras right, you'll need some repentance. :-)

parade schedule (NOTE a lot of parades are family events - especially outside the Quarter...)

Practice jumping up in the air with your hand raised and shouting, "Hey Mister, throw me something!" Take some plastic bags in your pocket to carry the throws you catch. There is a lot of waiting around parades, then they roll by and it is truly magic; talk to the locals around you. Most spectators will not be in costume. Obey the police.

We are going to be in town Fri, Sat, Sun and I'm not so sure what to expect either! We've been to Joka at least 20 times in the past few years but never at mardi gras time. I'm wondering just how crazy this weekend will be, even though its not Fat Tuesday itself!
