Where's the Blues?

Are there any venues for blues music in or near the French Quarter? We are considering our first time visit from April 18-22. Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes there are. One venue that comes quickly to mind is Bourbon Street's Funky Pirate; watch for Al Carson and the Bluesmasters. Just outside the Quarter is the Frenchmen Street Historic District, where a small club, the Apple Barrel features the blues. There are many more,

Funky Pirate has blues all the time. Big Al Carson is great and he is there 8:30-at least midnight Tues-Sat. On Saturdays the music starts about noon. A band that is a special favorite of our is Mark Penton and the Pentones. They play 4-8 Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Blues bands at The Funky Pirate are all good. Fun place.

If you download the Offbeat app you can see who is playing where and when and it lists the music type too. So you can scan the list for blues each day. The best free app for NOLA!

Funky Pirate for Willie Lockett and the All Purpose Blues Band (usually Sunday nights)and Gary Brown on Monday nights. Also Rooster and the Chickenhawks at Chris Owens Club on Thur.-Sunday...blues, RnB, early rock....Thur and Sunday, 7:00- until...Wed and Fri. 6:00-8:30. AND the Gazebo Cafe on Thur-Monday, noon until around 6:00.. Offbeat is good, however, not all places/bands are listed in it.

I would like to mention Sing Sing on Bourbon, the house band is good but it is not a pretty bar.

Yes, Sing Sing ... often only the late band is blues. It is a real treat on the few nights when Louis Armstrong's son, grandson, great grandson and great, great grandson are there and play together...
