Time to see City Park Bot. garden? Outdoor dining nearby?

If you're a serious plant geek, is this an all-day thing? Is it mostly an outdoor thing, or is there also a building to explore? Any plants for sale?

Is there anywhere with outdoor dining or other great restaurant we should visit while we're that far north?

We went to the Botanical Garden last year and I would say that two hours would be plenty. Last year there was a "snack bar" in a small building near the Art Museum where we ate lunch outside on the deck, but I don't see it listed anymore. There was also a bit upscale snack bar in the Art Museum, but I don't see it anymore , either.

We took the Canal Street CITY PARK Streetcar to the park. Don't take the Cemetary streetcar! It doesn't run real often, so plan your trip carefully. We also caught it on the way back, with the Eaplanade bus as a back-up.

There are restaurants relatively nearby, such as the Parkway Tavern, famous for their poboys. You might have to walk a few blocks if yoi don't have a car.

The Brennan family operates the restaurant inside the N.O. Museum of Art. You can walk in from outside (right side of bldg if looking at museum front) and sit in a small courtyard. It's counter service with the food brought to your table. Upscale snacks and light fare but quite nice.

We went to the Sculpture Garden in City Park (another great spot, lots of atmospheric live oaks) It was an easy walk from the park down Esplanade, which is a pretty, tree-lined street. You come first to St. Louis #3 Cemetery, which has some nice statuary. A few blocks further is Ponce de Leon Street, with Liuzza's by the Track. Fantastic po-boys. There's also Cafe Degas, and Lola's (Spanish, tapas and sangria!) right nearby, along with Parkway Tavern, which is a bit further if you are walking.

For something more upscale there's also the Brennan restaurant Ralph's on the Park.
