best place for live music?

Will be going to NOLA in June and staying in the french quarter. My DH would like to just go and hang out and listen to live music. I explained and thought there would be music in most of the bars etc.. in the french quarter and frenchman street. He is saying that he has seen some places online in the Warehouse distract at certain nightclubs. I would love to stay in the quarter at night so we can just walk back to our hotel.

Any suggestions or ideas on where to go and what to see?

thank you

We have been to the Howlin Wolf and the Howlin Wolf Den in the Warehouse District. Otherwise there is more to offer on Bourbon or Frenchman St. If you are interested in jazz, on Bourbon, Irvin Mayfield's Jazz Playhouse at the Sonesta is first rate. Fritzels has more of a Dixieland variety, and traditional jazz at the nearby Preservation Hall. Funky Pirate has blues on the menu. Mostly jazz on Frenchman...dba, Snug Harbor, Spotted Cat, Blue Nile, Three Muses and others....Apple Barrel is a great little blues bar. Also some first class jazz acts in hotel bars around the quarter.

When you get close to your dates, check these websites for music....

Also check out The Davenport Lounge at the Ritz (corner of the Quarter) for Jeremy Davenport...nice jazz. And The Palm Court Cafe on Decatur for jazz and Cafe Beignet across from the Royal Sonesta.

For more Blues, try Chris Owens(Bourbon/St. Louis) on Thur-Sun. for Rooster and the Chickenhawks...blues, RnB, early rock...Rooster is 75 and has been on Bourbon St. for 40 years. For blues in the afternoon, try the Gazebo Cafe, Thur-Mon...usually noon-5:00 or so. I particularly like Willie Lockett and the All Purpose Blues Band at Funky Pirate(700 block Bourbon) on Sunday evenings and Gary Brown (great blues sax) at Funky Pirate on Monday evening.

For great Cajun music, try VooDoo Vibe(next to Famous Door 300 block Bourbon)...especially on Sunday and Wednesday when Waylon Thibideaux is playing. Also Brandon Moreau at the Bayou Club next to Tropical Isle (Bourbon/Toulouse). If you are in town on Sunday, there is a terrific, local Sunday Brunch at Buffa's on Esplanade/Burgundy from 11:00-2:00...good food, lots of locals and a great Dixieland Band. Enter at the door on Burgundy. Small venue, so go early to get a table. All of these options are in the French Quarter and are just a few of the offerings...depending on the night and the time there are many more bands...some of the bars even have 2 for 1 or 3 for 1 Happy Hours while the first band is playing. Many of the clubs will allow you to bring in a "street" drink or a drink from another club, but you must buy one from them when you finish the one you brought in. However, some of the clubs will want you to buy a drink from them immediately...they will tell you as soon as you enter. There is great music all over the city, but if you want to stay in the Quarter, there are no cover charges except at Preservation Hall, and you can easily walk back to your hotel.
