Need Advice - April 3-4, 2014

We have never visited New Orleans, and are considering taking a cruise out of there which leaves on Saturday, April 5. We hope to fly in on Thursday, April 3, and spend 2 nights enjoying the city. PROBLEM: I am having trouble finding a "reasonable" priced hotel for those 2 nights. No hotels that I have yet found are offering a senior rate, and many hotels are not showing available rooms. Is something going on at that time (convention, festival, etc) which is causing this, or is this "normal" for New Orleans? Any information/advice is welcome. (Right now, it looks like the flight and 2 nights in New Orleans may cost more than the cruise.)

Some of the hotels don't have their reservations open that far in advance...try calling the hotel and asking.

April is a super busy month in New Orleans.

You might go to neworleansonline.com and check their lists of hotels and prices, then make some calls. They also have a calendar of events that will show some of the events in town, lists of tours, restaurants, maps, coupons, etc. A visitor's guide can be downloaded/ordered from that site, as well.

Please define what" reasonable" means to you price wise. That way we can maybe offer some alternatives that may work for ya'll. Don't give up!

As mentioned, April is busy, but with WrestleMania added to the normal traffic of tourists, conventions, etc.... it will be especially crowded around town.

There is WrestleMania XXX April 03 - April 06 which, based on related inquiries on this Forum, is a really big deal, AND National School Board Association April 03 - April 08. Add to this that mid March to mid May is one of New Orleans' two "high" seasons.

You've picked an expensive time. I would say try two nights POST-CRUISE rather than pre-cruise but then you'll bump into FQ Festival, which is likely worse than Wrestlemania in terms of rate.

We recently booked a room For the first week in April at frenchmens Hotel. We wanted a place that is near French Quarter has a real New Orleans feel. Nothing fancy but the reviews sound just fine. Depends on what you are looking for . We are booked on a cruise on April6. Hope this helps.
