Trip Sept 19-22...where to stay

Coming this month...not sure where to stay, French Quarter or downtown....would like a quaint area, close to french quarter where we don't have to drive from place to place. We don't need a fancy, upscale hotel, just somewhere clean and in a decent area. Thanks in advance

Is it your first visit?

If so, (well, even if not so), I would recommend staying in the FQ. It is a relatively small area, and you can walk to 95% of the things you'll want to do. You won't need a car.

For hotels, there are many that fit your criteria, (in no particular order):

Dauphine Orleans, Hotel St. Marie, Hotel Les Marais, Place d' Armes, Bourbon Orleans, Hotel Provincial, etc. etc.

I second Hotel les Marais !!! We stayed there and loved it. A great mix of high end and casual/trendy. Nice freebies like breakfast and drink tickets

1st trip, definitely the Quarter. Not your 1st trip, you might want to also consider the Marigny, next door to the FQ. Both great neighborhoods (and the Quarter is a neighborhood, not one big party place).

The hotels I've stayed at and enjoyed very much are the Place D'Armes hotel, the Provincial, and the Chateau Hotel.
