What hotels or motels or near the megabus station? We have a cruise out of New Orleans, La and plan to ride the megabus there. Would it be better to arrival a day earlier? What is the best transportation to take to the bus from the megabus station?

The Cruise Terminal is only a little over a mile from the MegaBus stop. The Cruise Terminal is pretty much set up for only taxicab, shuttle or other automobile access. Shouldn't be any problem getting a taxicab from the MegaBus stop to the Cruise Ship Terminal, and it will cost around $7 per person (plus tip) if there is more than one passenger in the cab. In the unlikely event a cab is not waiting in the vicinity, you can call United Cab at 504-522-9771 or 504-524-9606, and one will be sent to you in short order if you give them a specific street address.

Being that we love New Orleans, we would definitely think it best to arrive days before or stay days after your cruise; however, it isn't necessary for your transition from bus to ship or vice versa. Well located (for a tourist visit) hotels within walking distance of the MegaBus stop, and also an easy cab ride to/from the Cruise Terminal, would include Bienville House, Westin Canal Place, New Orleans Marriott, W French Quarter , and French Market Inn (there you would want a "Marquis" [renovated] room).

Also there are a bunch of Hotels on Bienville St as well. You got Royal Street close by as well. Megabus is the perfect place to get off at to stay in the Quarter to go to your hotel.

This thread is a year old. I would recommend starting a new one, with the dates of your visit and a nightly budget in US Dollars for your hotel. Also try to tell us a litle bit about what kind of suggestions you're looking for. (Tours? Restaurants? Entertinment?)

The current Megabus stop is in the portion of the City referred to as Marigny. Although there are a number of close by b&bs, inns and guest houses, there are not any hotels located within 5 or 6 blocks of the stop. Taxicabs are available (you may need to call for one) to take you to the hotels in the French Quarter or Central Business District; that fare would be $8 to $20 for two persons. I would choose a hotel based more on the location of my destinations of interest (attractions) than on the location of the Megabus stop.

Well the location has changed now you would have a good walk to get to the Quarter, probably at least a mile.
