My last trip last month, I discovered PJ's Coffee Shop in the upper Pontalba on the Chartres side. That was the first time I ever saw it. It's got a "chain" look to it, but I guess it's a local chain. It became my early morning walk stop. Clean and comfortable. A fairly steady stream of "characters," and great coffee served in paper cups, not styrofoam.

The afternoon I like to settle in at a bar, and enjoy a drink or two, talking to whoever, and watch the passing scene.

The evening is about music. Usually a night on Frenchmen, a night outside the Quarter, could be anywhere, and at least two nights on Bourbon.

Meals whenever, wherever.

Morning, a trip to Cafe Envie for a mocha and croissants at Croissants d'Or to enjoy at the hotel courtyard.

Afternoon, stroll Royal St. with a stop at Acme and the Carousel Bar.

Evening, dinner, stroll with a Pat O's mint julep and a cigar. Hit Frenchmen St. and hit the Spotted Cat and d.b.a. at the minimum.

Morning- find a cool breakfast spot and enjoy the atmosphere with some bloody Mary's in mimosas. Watching the quarter come to life!

Afternoons- Bourbon street for the afternoon bands and some drinks and dancing! Particular the Daytimers band (formerly the Bonoffs). Shopping for trinkets in the Market after a margarita or two from El Gato. Shopping with a buzz is always better ;-) oh and we always seem to spend one full afternoon on Pat O's courtyard!

Evenings- stroll the quarter, hit Bourbon and Frenchmens Streets and tucking ourselves in little dive bars we find!

Morning, walking around the FQ. It has such a different feeling in the morning. It's wonderful!!

Early afternoon, Jackson Square looking at the art, listening to the music

Late afternoon/evening: listening to one of the many great bands and having a few beverages.

Mornings - Cafe Envie for coffee and such, followed by strolling the FQ, taking pics, etc. A mandatory stop at St. Louis Cemetery #1 once during each trip (usually the first morning).

Lunch at Napoleon House or Coop's or Gumbo Shop.

Afternoons - Maybe take in a historic house or museum, more strolling, shopping, perhaps the French Market, perhaps a ferry ride to Algiers.

Some libations at Boondock Saint, Molly's, etc.

Dinner at whatever decent restaurant I'm close to at that time.

Evenings usually at Frenchmen St.

Typically stay on Canal, near casino, so:

Morning - Walk to Cafe Envie (me too, Kayak120, LOL). Walk around French market and talk to some of the craftsman that i know by sight.

Afternoon - Visit the art and antique stores on Royal. (Trying to talk my wife out of buying everything in sight!)

Evening - Drinks at Polo Lounge at Winsor Court while we decide where to eat. Later we listen to music on Bourbon, Frenchman or one of the many small clubs in the area......

I could do this routine dozens of times, and enjoy it each and every time.

lizard0061, you made me laugh out loud!

We call it 'drunk shopping'!

My husband once ended up with a pair of black shoes with red flames on them. I usually end up with some kind of hat (and TRUST me, I am NOT a hat person).

Some of our favorite souvenir purchases are the result of 'drunk shopping' where the rule is, "if you want it, buy it"!

There is no place on Earth better than New Orleans for 'drunk shopping'!
