New Orleans This Weekend!!

3 girlfriends and I are flying to NOLA early tomorrow morning to celebrate our friends birthday! None of us have EVER been there before. Staying at the Royal Sonesta and we can't wait. Anything good happening this weekend we shouldn't miss? We fly back to California Monday afternoon.

Here is our list of what we want to do (please give me your opinions on these selections):

Dinner at GW Finn

Lunch at Commander's Palace on Monday with 25 cent martinis

Beignets at Cafe Du Monde

Hurricanes at Pat O'Briens

Walking Tour of the French Quarter - not a formal one. Just the one from Frommer's page

Dinner on the Natchez Steamboat (my friend really wants to do this just for the fun of it)

Oysters at ACME, Felix, Desire Oyster Bar and maybe Drago (if we can get over there)

Order take out (deivery) from Verti Marte

Sazerac drink at French 75

Vieux Carre drink at Carousel Bar

Any drink at Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop

Royal Street during the day (shops/musicians)

Maybe take trolley from Canal Street to Garden District to see Mansions

What else should we do?? What not to miss? What/where should we go at night? Most fun places to hang out?

Thank you for any quick replies! Have to print my list of things to do tonight!

Looks like you have done your homework! Be sure your friend pins a dollar bill to her shirt on her birthday-then see what happens. See Gambit weekly to scope out events this weekend-

Looks real good to me. Some folks might dis the Natchez dinner cruise, warning of mediocre food by New Orleans standards and not that great of a view at night, but you will otherwise be sampling some of NOLA's better food offerings, and being out on the River on a genuine steamboat is pretty cool. Be sure to allow some time for serendipity, if you here music of interest during your travels, check it out; lots of no or low cover charge opportunities. You might want to plan on some music. For this weekend's music highlights, along with links to more comprehensive listings showing the musical genre, see:

You'll have a great time.

For just 3 days, you've got more than enough planned. You will want time to just wander around, appreciate the atmosphere, people watch, etc.

As for things to do at night, you're staying right on Bourbon so the fun is literally outside your door.

As for places to hang out, it depends on what you might like. For a plain ol' bar, half locals, half regularly visiting tourists, with inexpensive drinks and a great jukebox, Chart Room at Chartres St. and Bienville St. For typical Bourbon St. fun inside and out on the patio, Razoo on Bourbon St. For 30, 40 and 50 something quality cover band dancing, Famous Door on Bourbon St. For karaoke on steroids, Cats Meow on Bourbon St. There are also no-cover jazz (dixieland), blues, rock and Cajun/zydeco live music bars on Bourbon. There is typically an assortment of quality low-cover charge music in the Frenchmen St. area. Bombay Club does the upscale more serene martini thing. Upscale Jazz clubs in both Royal Sonesta Hotel and Ritz-Carlton Hotel. If you are looking for something specific, chances are somebody can point it out to you.
