New Orleans Trip

Hello,

I am visiting NO during Memorial's Day Weekend for my bday with a few friends. I have been planning places to visit, eat and stay. Most of these places came from trip advisor. Please see below the places I am considering. Please provide any helpful information regarding any of these places or other places to replace in the list below.. Also, can anyone suggest any places (clubs or lounges)?

Breakfast: Cafe Du Mondo, Cafe Beignet

Lunch: Felix, Acme, Commanders, Johnny Po

Dinner: Jacques Imos, Emerils, Crazy Lobster, Uperline, Oceana Grill

Activities: Swamp and Plantation Tour (Cajun Encounter or Cajun Pride), Riverboat Cruise (Steamboat or Big Easy)

Hotels: Intercontinental or Westin

Café Du Monde doesn't really have "breakfast", per se. Just beignets and coffee. Worth a stop for atmosphere and because you "have" to go there as a first timer lol. But don't expect a full meal. You might just as easily find yourselves there at some random point after a night out.

I would have no problem removing Oceana Grill and Lazy Lobster from your dinner list. They're not close to being in the same league as your other choices.

Thanks. Do you have any recommendations for a good fried seafood place?

I agree with IrishFan. For fried seafood, Deanie's, Bourbon House (somewhat overpriced however), or Royal House. At Johnny's Po Boys, I prefer breakfast over lunch.

I prefer Westin Canal Place over Intercontinental, somewhat better location, and much better views. However, I prefer smaller "boutique" hotels WITHIN the French Quarter even more. Because of the close proximity of restaurants, bars and shops, those amenities are not particularly important within a well located hotel.

I am wondering if Felix's and Acme are pretty similar to do both? I have done Acme, but not Felix's, but everyone suggests trying Felixe's if you can't get into Acme, etc. Loved Acme. It is low key, but we enjoyed a late casual lunch there. I love Johnny's po boys, and there breakfast biscuits are delicious! The last couple of times we had po boys we were disappointed, but I would still go back. We can't usually get there early enough to get the breakfast biscuits.

Emerils is amazing and we are hoping to hit Jacque Imo's this trip in the summer.

Have a wonderful time.

Katie's in mid-city has a great fried seafood platter. I think Felix and Acme are redundant. I prefer the Bourbon House for oysters anyway. It's right next door to Acme and usually has a shorter wait.

Smaller quality "boutique" hotels popular on this Forum and with me, having locations convenient to your mentioned destinations (or public transit to them), in no particular order, would include Hotel Mazarin, Hotel Le Marais, Dauphine Orleans, Bienville House, and Place d'Armes.

Particularly well located larger full service hotels would include Omni Royal Orleans (my favorite in this class), Hotel Monteleone, and Royal Sonesta.

Well located and popular medium size hotels would include Bourbon Orleans and Courtyard Iberville.

Being in charming but older buildings, there can be quite a bit of disparity between rooms at any given hotel. Pay particular attention to room descriptions, referring to the particular hotel's website if necessary.

Most Forum regulars have their faves, but I sleep around. If you have particular hotel expectations or concerns, or are debating between several, let us know, then we'll try to narrow it down (though we might not all agree).
