Blues Clubs in NOLA?

Travelling to NOLA at the end of the month for 4 nights. My wife and I are not big Jazz fans but prefer Blues. Are there any Blues clubs you can recommend?

Funky Pirate, 727 Bourbon Street is the best Blues venue in and around the FQ. If you have a car or don't mind taking a $20ish taxi rdie, D'Mac's on Jefferson Davis is good too. They have a jam session on Monday nights, hosted by The Danny Alexander Blues Band that is a lot of fun. Totally off the tourist track.

Just stroll Bourbon, and you will hear the blues. Many of the bars and clubs don't limit themselves to one genre (outside of the dedicated Jazz clubs), but they might have blues early and cover bands or zydeco later or any combination or sequence thereof. The Funky Pirate, and Sing Sing come to mind for featuring blues. Sometimes Chris Owens will have some blues, I'm thinking of Willie Locket and the All Purpose Blues Band.

Go to Offbeat Magazine's website www.offbeat.com/new-orleans-concert-listings/ and you will find complete listing of venues, dates, and bands.

Don't shy away from zydeco, which can out rock rock and roll and out blue the blues; you'll find it all over NO.

Willie Lockett's band is now known as Willie Lockett and The Blues Krewe. They play on Frenchmen more than Bourbon these days at Vaso and Checpoint Charlie's. thet keep their website pretty current, wlblueskrewe.com

They haven't played at Chris Owens for a couple of years.

You might read the posts for "Live Blues" in New Orleans, Aug 8-12. This thread is currently ongoing and has the latest info. The schedules listed will be the same except that Sing Sing may still be open until July 1.

Funky Pirate has changed their Sunday night line up. Mark Penton & The Pentones are playing the 8:30-til? Set. Lynn Cut Set Drury is now playing the 4-8 spot on Sundays. I have not heard them but heard they were good. LOVE The Pentones of course.

Veer off Bourbon and head for BMC (Balcony Music Club) on Monday nights for Lil' Red and Big Bad. BMC is on corner of Decatur and Esplanade. Outstanding blues band with a dynamic singer who knows her blues history. You will not be bored. We never miss a Monday night there when we are in town.
