What is a quintessential NOLA memento?

I've been reading this travel forum for weeks and love all the info I'm absorbing. I leave for NOLA tomorrow and am wondering what would be a good thank you gift to buy for my pet sitter. She's a young girl, and the gift has to last a 6+ hour drive home. I'd appreciate your recommendations as a box of pralines is the only thing I've thought of so far. Thank you!

I would say it's something you can't just buy. A Zulu coconut. A Muses shoe. I have an Antoines menu signed by Rex during Mardi gras 1984.

I second Fleurty Girl! And you can never go wrong with pralines.

Besides pralines, Crystal hot sauce, Cafe du Monde Coffee or another local chicory blend, Zapp's Crawfish Potato Chips, fleur de lis earrings, I like the trivets and coasters in French Market with photos of local color. T-shirts from real bars (cool and divey ones),

The Boondock Saint t-shirts are particularly cool and nice. Always nice if you can do your shopping at the bar.

I second pralines, and even more so a NOSOC gift pack idea. Also, various restaurants you might stop in sell their own hot sauces - if she likes spicy stuff, this may be something to consider. Muriel's has a great hot sauce, though my favorite is from Elizabeth's.

I don't want to start an argument here, but I would advise against beads. I know we've all worn them, touched them etc, , but considering the lead content being way over the roof in those, I would not give them to a kid. Besides, you've got so many good "made in Louisiana" suggestions here, why bring something made in China.

Also, before I opened the topic, from the title I though you meant a memento for yourself, and thought immediately "a tattoo, of course" - just in case you are indeed thinking of getting yourself something as well. :)

I'll second Roden't idea with the hot sauce! My absolute favorite is Muriel's hot sauce. I always try to bring some of that home ever since I've tried it!

All of the ideas are great! You really can't go wrong with any of the suggestions! I like the mask idea. They have some very pretty ones. My daughter loves them and it's now a must for me to bring one back from every trip.
