Public transport Mayrhofen to Innsbruck Alpine Zoo?

Has anyone ever visited the Alpine Zoo at Innsbruck when they've been staying in Mayrhofen?

Its somewhere we'd like to take DS (3) if we come in the summer, but we won't have a car.

So just wanting to know how easy it is to travel there using public transport (we will have the Zillertal pass) i.e. no. of changes, approx. cost & journey time.

Thanks

Bus direct from Mayrhofen to Innsbruck, Or train, change at Jenbach. In either case your Ziller card is only valid to and from Jenbach. Don't know how far the Zoo is from the centre though.

You have various alternatives to travel to the zoo. Not really hard to reach and worth a visit with some special species too.

You can travel via the Zillertalbahn to Jenbach . This a nice journey and often with a steam train and vintage rail cars. Most kids like the ride - adults too of course.

Then connecting in Jenbach to Innsbruck via train. frequent service

www.oebb.at

In Innsbruck via bus ( M to W then onward )

or via the Nordkettenbahn.

look here for info

www.alpenzoo.at this includes directions - rates etc.

for Zillertalbahn

www.zillertalbahn.at

A believe the steam train is not covered by the Zillertal card - regular diesel are.

info for Bus too

Bus#8330 I think- bus less interesting than a ride on the train - also more room to move around.

for Nordkette

www.nordkette.com

The Nordkette base station is found in the old town area adjacent to the Congress center and near to the Golden Roof. This walkable from the train station

Note discounts for young children too.

You can get a day card for everything in Innsbruck including a bus to the cable car, admission to the zoo, and a trip up to the top of the mountain. Good value!

The journey up to Jenbach is quite slow - but very scenic. Would guess about 15 - 20 minutes on fast train from Jenbach to Innsbruck. By the way - nothing worth seeing in Jenbach itself!

There are often animals at the mountain cafes in the Zillertal - perhaps you will find enough to keep a small child amused without going all the way to Innsbruck.

The Z card is amazing value - we went somewhere different every day for 2 weeks. If you take drinks and a picnic you don't need to spend much for a wonderful holiday. Make sure you take the cable cars up into the mountains. There are lots of things for children to do everywhere.

For Mayrhofen - enbach - about 1 hour. Train or bus- many stops on the way.

Jenbach to Innsbruck main station 15-30 minutes depending on train taken.

Regional trains travel more often but more stops and thus slower.

You can find schedules on the websites given above
