Easy walking

Apart from walking around the lake, are there options for using the gondolas for not too strenuous return walks?

Take the main cable car up the Schmittenhohe. Time out for a look in the Elisabeth Chapel and refreshments in the little hutte about 100 yards from the cable car station. Take the main path down - really easy walking. The last part of the descent is by chair lift - beautiful. Another walk that we enjoyed, but that I can't remember the details for - start the lake walk going clockwise, but instead of going past the caravan site go straight on through meadows. You reach a fabulous schloss for refreshments, continue through a village then rejoin the lake road.

We got back from kaprun at the weekend, We enjoyed some very easy walking. Go up on the cablecars etc, and if your hotel gives you the Kaprun card you'll get up free - seriously. Maiskogel in Kaprun and Schmittenhohe at Zell both offer very friendly walking trails and the Schmittenhohe has walks between cablecars, so you can go up one and then walk across and down to the other. They both touch base in the same place at Zell, which is handy! There is a great walk from the cablecar station in the Maiskogel up to the Gross Glockner Blick (and there is a lovely little cafe there from which to enjoy the superb view as your reward). The first level of the Gletcherbahn up to the Kitzsteinhorn puts you in a good place for walking down - fit and youthful, two hours, older/lazier three hours. I've posted some reviews and hope to do more when I have time.
