We want to spend about 2 nights in Brac during July 2014. We will be arriving there by ferry/cat. Which area of Brac is the best to stay, closest to the ferry port and what means of transport can we use while on the island to explore
If you have only 2 days than take a ferry from Split port to Supetar. This 50 minutes ferry runs very frequently, in high season starting from 05,00 in the morning. It's actually each hour connections to Brac island. More you can find on Jadrolinija official carrier - http://www.jadrolinija.hr/en/home
In case you (recommended) want to get to the most attractive town on Brac island than take a fast catamaran connection to Bol town (you'll be impressed with its beautiful pebble beach - Zlatni Rat). Catamaran schedule you will find on above website. Catamaran starts from Split port and it has number 9603.
If you are looking for accommodation than upon arrival visit local "Turist Biro - Tourist Bureau'. They can help you.

88 reviews Bol is the best if you are looking for the beach and is connected from Split by the catamaran. I think your children would like the beach at Zlatni Rat.
