Kona for 1 night.....

My wife and I are staying on Maui for a wedding, but I was thinking of possibly doing a day trip to Kona.

My idea is to arrive on Kona in the morning and visit until late afternoon the following day with a visit to Volcano National Park.

I was thinking of using Mokulele Air.

Is it worth it?

To come over to see VNP, you would want to fly into Hilo (ITO). KOA is 3 hours away each direction, without stops. ITO is 45 minutes or less.

Most would fly Hawaiian Air.

Is there a reason you want to fly a small plane? It can get bumpy here, and there is often weather coming into Hilo. Hawaiian Air is going to be a smoother flight.

Just to address your first idea, could you please explain in more detail where you are going to spend the night, what hours on what day you thought to spend at VNP, when your flight leaves ...

I do not think a one night stay in Kona makes any sense, but an overnight to see VNP does, at least that is something unique for the cost of airfare bumping up the cost of that day, and for all the travel.

This is my opinion, but the town Kailua Kona is to me the thing least worth seeing on the west side, but maybe you have some definite thing you want to see?
