Where do you vacation since Kona Village has closed?

Just wondering where everyone who regularly vacationed at Kona Village Resort has been traveling since they have been closed?

I wasn't a KVR regular, but I have been vacationing all over. There is wealth of nice places to stay.

The Four Seasons Hualalai being the best of them all.

Like the Mauna Kea for the great beach although the older rooms and pool are underwhelming.

My favorite is Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel, because of the superb beach, but others don't care for it much

Since the Four Seasons Hualalai is right next door it seems like the obvious choice (I always preferred it, myself). But if what you're looking for are similar individual hales, friendly staff, and low density, there are many places in French Polynesia that fit the bill, and the snorkeling and diving are much better.

Indeed the Four Seasons next door owned by the same people would be the obvious choice, but as Shea also mentioned the two resorts were not that alike, better matches can be found in the South Pacific...

There is really nothing like Kona Village in Hawaii at this point in time.

Some Kona Village fans have switched to the Four Seasons, Mauna Lani, or just gone the condo route.

If you don't have kids, Traavassa on Maui in Hana has been suggested as being about as close as is possible in the state itself.

Otherwise, you are looking elsewhere. For adults only, Little Palm Island in Florida is about as close as it seems. Our family has settled on Bluefields Bay Villas in Jamaica. While a different culture and set up a little differently, it has quite a bit of the same vibe. Much smaller, but with a similar relationship between staff and guests.

Thanks to his love of Hawaii, as well as deeeep pockets, Larry Ellison offers hope in the not too distant future:

Been too long since last visit; perhaps an overnighter from Maui in a couple of months....

I like the swimming and snorkeling off Kahalepalaoa and of course I love Lanai in general, so I'm pretty excited about Pulama Lanai. It still won't be Tahiti, but it's cheaper and faster to get there....although interestingly, I just booked airfare to Tahiti for my March trip and it was $800 r/t total, from Kona. The last time I flew to Lanai from Kona it cost me $500 r/t!!

Ouch; hope that was for two!

OGG/LNY 7 AM-next day LNY/OGG 5 PM @ $120 pp on Mokulele early February. Similar times of day from KOA: $606 for two (and minimum r/t duration 4:45 vs 50 minutes from OGG).

Now for lodging (and I can only grab one ankle at a time anymore). Think I better down a couple of Mai Tais before checking.

Sadly no, it was $500 per person! And with the 30% hike in rates at the FS Lanai properties over last year, it wasn't pretty.

Ah ha; needed my morning, 23 degrees, walk to jolt the ole memory, but seem to recall from a past thread that you bypass Mokulele etc in favor of nothing less than-

http://tinyurl.com/ntnl ...If true, grand for two isn't all that outrageous!

Anyway, for those interested, a few more links @ tripadvisor.com/…54250013

That link didn't work for me...but this was just flying the normal Hawaiian to HNL and then Island Air to Lanai. Nothing special!
