Transportation Seward to Anchorage

Hi We're arriving in Seward early morning 30 May (on cruise ship Millenium) Will need to get to Anchorage and would like to do this on one of the buses incorporating wildlife tour. Will have a 7 month old baby with us. Is this practical? Does anyone know if any of the coach companies supply baby seats?

Thankyou

I would take the train . . . easier to do with a baby. :)

Also recommend the train, especially with a baby, although the timing on the train probably would not be great for you unless you're ok with spending the whole day in Seward. I did the same cruise a couple of years ago.

When do you need to be in Anchorage? The regular schedule of the train arrives about 10.15pm. There will be a special cruise train early that morning if you need to arrive into Anchorage earlier, but it costs more.

Are you flying out the same evening? Spending time in Anchorage or elsewhere after the cruise?

Does anyone here know how early to book the train from Seward to Anchorage? We will be arriving on a ship on Aug 29th and are planning on taking the train that evening. Does it sell out, and if so, should we book soon?

If you know the date you want to travel why would you not alleviate stress and just book the train soon?!? Use a credit card to defer payment for a month or more.

Lots to do in Seward while waiting for the train- the Sea Life Center, a sea life day cruise, a taxi ride to Exit glacier, lunch, relaxing on a bench watching the sea otters, eagles, etc, great playground with swings.

I also would think the train would be so much easier with a baby as you can get up, walk around, go to the food car, etc rather than stuck in a seat on a bus.

From AK Railroad:

"Children under two years old ride for free if traveling on an adult's lap. If you wish to have a seat for them, you will need to purchase a seat at the child rate. Car seats are not required onboard our trains.

Note: For online booking, to enter a lap-child you do not enter the child as a passenger, but use the special options on the passenger names screen to list the child's information."

Thanks everyone that's really helpful. We've decided we'll take the train. Quite happy to spend the day in Seward as we've got two days in Anchorage anyway.

Our cruise on the Celebrity Millennium arrives in Seward at 5 am. on Sept. 5. How quickly can we get to Anchorage for a 12:30 pm flight out?

D B .. You can walk off the ship as soon as it's docked if you keep your luggage with you the night before. The drive via taxi is a little over 2 hours. So even if you delayed getting off till 7 you could still be at the airport by 9:30.
