New Years Eve Ideas, please!

Our family (sons are 19 and 22 so one underage) will be in Seattle on New Years Eve and have rooms at the Hampton Inn near the Space Needle. Thought we'd join the crowds outside to see the fireworks. Any suggestions where to go for dinner nearby, where around Seattle Centre to try and go for viewing, and how early we'd need to be outside? Thanks for any advice and Happy Holidays!

One of my fave restaurants in the area is 10 Mercer. Toulouse Petit is also very popular. Check soon regarding reservations or if they've got anything special going on for NYEve.

One I would avoid is T.S. McHugh's on Mercer - it's old and tired, very mediocre.

A lot of the big events are 21+ but there will be a celebration at Seattle Center with fireworks at midnight.

Follow the crowds but just about anywhere you can see the needle you will be able to see the fireworks. I would consider the mural ampitheater on Seattle Center grounds, which has a sloped grassy lawn with a great view of the needle. Here are a couple pics: …photoshelter.com/gallery-slideshow/…

Of course the area right around the needle will also have great views and a lively crowd. Here are some videos from below the needle. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hslwbJeGg1k

Another option is Kerry Park, a park with iconic views of the Space Needle and skyline. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPSYcLc9vTw

However it is a small park and it will be packed. Get to the park well in advance if you want to try to watch from there. It is a bit of a steep slog uphill but from Tolouse Petite for example it is just about a half mile walk.

I think Toulouse Petit is a reasonable idea.

It's not a long walk up the hill from your hotel, and they typically feature a special for NYE. Last year's info was:

Toulouse Petit Kitchen & Lounge

601 Queen Anne Ave N

Seattle, WA 98119

206.432.9069

www.toulousepetit.com

Make reservations for the 10:00pm seating at this Queen Anne restaurant. Your meal includes the view of the fireworks display at midnight.

****

Another option is to watch the fireworks from an Argosy cruise ship, (includes dinner, and leaves from Pier 56):

Kerry park is nice, but as Ken says, it will be crowded!

We often eat at the wonderful Tilikum Place Cafe just south of the Space Needle, and then stand there at the corner of Denny & 5th and oooh and aaah.

For most of these restaurants, you will want to have reservations pretty much in advance.

thanks for the great suggestions! We've eaten at Toulouse Petit for their happy hour breakfast before and really enjoyed it. Also liked Peso's down the street. I'll check into those as well as Tilikum Place. Any other thoughts?

Winterfest - New Year's Eve with The Rhythm Nation

I just called the Armory and the event is all ages. There is alcohol only at the Armory restaurants, no event bar or beer garden and you can't walk around with an open container. From the Armory you basically will walk right outside and watch the fireworks.
