Transport from SeaTac?

Can we take the light rail to the Holiday Inn Xpress @ Seattle Center? Or should we hire a car or is there a shuttle similar to the one's in Vegas that are round trip? Also, can we rent a car once in Seattle or do we need to do this at the airport? Thanks-easier to ask the locals-saves some research time!!!!

Holiday Inn express is near the space needle and not downtown. perhaps two miles from Light rail station. You can take shuttle express from seatac direct to hotel. If you use their 'scheduled' service its $18 pp.

Holiday Inn is next the HI Express

see the times on the link above. You could also arrange a flat rate towcar for about $50 or flat rate cab for about $35

flatrateforhire.com

lots of options and you can read the choices on top right under 'how to get into downtown from Seatac'.

Yes, you can rent a car in Seattle if/when you need it, cheaper than renting at the airport.

You can take the light rail from the airport to Westlake Center: soundtransit.org/Schedules/Central-Link-ligh… for $2.75 per person and then take the Seattle Monorail from Westlake Center to the Seattle Center for $2.25 per person: http://www.squidoo.com/seattle-monorail From the monorail terminal at the Seattle Center it is about a 3 block walk to the Holiday Inn Express. A rental car will probably not be needed to see the main attractions in the city since they are all either within walking distance or can be easily accessed by public transportation. Most hotels charge guests $25+ per day for parking and if you drive and park near an attraction you will probably pay $5-10 per hour for that too.

You didn't indicate when you are planning your trip, but you may not need to rent a car and drive to Anacortes to go whale watching. There is a passenger only ferry, the clipper, that departs from the Seattle waterfront to San Juan Island from May through September. Here is an article that explains the ways to get to San Juan Island: http://www.squidoo.com/San_Juan_Island If you are visiting sooner, the gray whales are migrating righ now and you can also sign up for a whale watching trip with the clipper see those.

Just to be clear, the Clipper wouldn't take you to Anacortes. It goes to Friday Harbor only.

While it may be possible to do the route to Holiday Inn Express by public transport for a visitor not knowing the city hauling luggage thru a shopping mall and onto the monorail not designed to transport luggage and finding their way to a hotel in a strange city is highly impractical advice. Of course you can try it and you'd save $13 pp but honestly is it worth it?

To me yes as I am looking at doing it Friday night. A little adventure is always a good thing. That and with maps here and online. I don't view it a big thing unless someone overpacks and has a lot of crap.

Well I don't think it's very good advice either. LightRail works great if you are staying in the Seattle downtown core. But if you're in the outlying areas (like the OP here) it's would be more hassle than the savings imo.

Vicki's post is misleading. I frequently stay at the Holiday Inn Express, and it is not exactly a three block walk from the monorail. It is more like a brisk 10 minute walk across several streets and a busy highway. I would not do it if I were encumbered by luggage.
