Seatac to Victoria to Friday Harbor? itinerary

Arriving at noon on a Sunday in August at Seatac. Would like to tour Victoria as well as Friday Harbor. Can someone suggest a simple itinerary for this...also we will not have a car..so would appreciate guidance re: shuttles, ferries, etc. leaving for Alaska late on Tuesday...is two days enough time?

Thank you

Flying or the Victoria Clipper are really your only choices for both.

Two days is not enough time for both locations, IMO. Perhaps if you fly point to point it could be managed, but rushed. It strongly suggest you choose one location.

I would agree with Vancouverite -- two days is just not enough. Given you will not be getting a car, i'd recommend Victoria for a day trip either by the Clipper or Kenmore air.

I'd suggest Victoira as its set up easier for tourists without a car. Everything is close by and the Clipper is the way to go.

You really dont have the time to try and do both.......You can fly a seaplane there (Kenmore air) Given you have a cruis to do there is too much risk here. Without a car its very difficult to do San Juan islands.

Your could do it but it would be rushed to fit both in such a short time.

There are a few different ways one can come out here to the San Juan islands and then go on to Sidney/Victoria Canada from Seattle without driving a car.

The Airporter Shuttle has daily round-trip service between SeaTac Airport, downtown Seattle, and the Anacortes ferry terminal and as can be seen online by looking at their schedule at airporter.com/schedules/…ana they leave SeaTac and Seattle and arrive at the Anacortes ferry many times in a day. This shuttle bus does make multiple stops and involves a brief transfer to a connecting bus to get to the Anacortes terminal. You'll need reservations which you can make at the mentioned web site or calling 866-235-5247

The Summer Washington Ferry schedule is not out yet for 2014 and won't be for months. Here is a link to the Summer 2013 ferry schedule (often the next years seasonal schedule is similar to the previous year): www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries/pdf/2013Summer.pdf

If you didn't want to go via the state ferry route you could also do it by flying. Kenmore Air takes you by van from SeaTac to one of their terminals (Boeing or Lake Union), where you board a land or seaplane bound for Lopez Island, Orcas Island, or for San Juan Island. Kenmore Air can be reached at 866-435-9524 or http://www.kenmoreair.com/

The WA state ferry to Sidney on Vancouver island BC from Anacortes (which stops on San Juan island) is scenic and you do see different islands close up that you don't see on the ferry ride from Anacortes to the San Juans...the main one is Spieden island which the ferry passes very close by and which is quite unique and makes for many scenic photo ops. Here is an image someone took of the ferry passing by the extreme southern tip of Spieden island: www.flickr.com/photos/wiseleyb/2747842809/ to give you an idea. The WA state ferry to Sidney on Vancouver island BC leaves right from the town of Friday Harbor so its convenient to stay on San Juan island if you want to catch the morning ferry to Sidney as they require you to be there a minimum of an hour in advance for customs and immigration purposes. Also from the WSDOT website posted for that run states "Ana/Sidney - Identification is Required U.S. and Canadian citizens 16 years of age and older traveling to or from Sidney BC must have one of the following designated documents: passport, passport card, enhanced driver's license (EDL), or "trusted traveler" document such as a Nexus Card. Travelers must have required travel documents ready and in hand upon arrival at the tollbooth." as now they won't sell you a ticket to Sidney Canada in Friday Harbor without you showing them a passport etc for each passenger

Insofar as the bus over on Vancouver island its run by BC Transit. You can gets more info at bctransit.com/regions/…ferries.cfm Take the #70 express bus or #72 bus from Sidney into Victoria.

I would just book a round trip on the Clipper and call it good. It is best to have a night in Victoria. You could make it a one way and ferry back through the San Juans, but it would be a worried rush to get to your cruise on Tuesday. Far better to take the morning Clipper on Tuesday with no stress of worst case scenarios.

You'll need to hustle to make the 3pm Clipper.

I would buy these tickets when you've made up your mind. The Clipper does sell out during cruise season.

Here's their schedule: www.clippervacations.com/schedules-fares/

Ditto to "book ahead of time". These things (even the ferrys) get booked quickly at the peak of tourist season.

By the way, getting TO your destination eats up a lot of time. If you were in Victoria (you could fly up on San Juan Air), you could potentially amend your airfare to fly back via Victoria airport to Sea-Tac, and then connect directly to your flight to Alaska. (Unfortunately, I don't think there's anything direct from Victoria to Alaska).
