Seattle hotels with indoor pool for kids

We plan on visiting the science museum. What other things to do for 12 year olds? Also, we plan on visiting family on Friday Harbor Island. What are the best whale-watching tours. Any other must dos? We have a week in August and are not traveling with a wheelchair user this time.

Your topic title was simple, but your actual question is much more complicated.

Re: pools. They are not common, so be prepared to live without.

The science museum is good for 12yo for about half a day. I think they'd also like the EMP and the laser shows (at night at the science center). When leaving Seattle Center, get on the very front car of the Monorail as there is one seat at the front windows. Even big, mature 12yo kids think it is fun. There is a food court at Seattle Center and at Westlake Center mall for easy family meals.

At Pike Place Market, give them some spending money for fun. Also bring gum!! The Gum Wall is on post alley just down the stairs by Rachel the Pig across from Pike Place Fish (place that throws fish).

At the waterfront, the aquarium can be fun, but try to go when it is not overrun with school tours (call in advance). Ye Olde Curiousity Shoppe is a big hit (see mummies on back wall), and a ferry ride is a must. Go to the walkup at Ivar's on the waterfront for fish and chips and be sure to go feed the seagulls on the side of the pier.

With most active 12yo's you could do all of this in one long day, especially if you don't have the wheelchair this time.

There is a great indoor pool at The Fairmont Olympic downtown. This is very nice pet-friendly and family-friendly hotel. :)

Well, the Olympic Hotel isn't in everybody's price range.

Two places to look that are less costly but still convenient are the Residence Inn on Lake Union, and the Silver Cloud on Lake Union, a couple hundred yards up the street from the R.I.

The Residence Inn is right on the trolley line to downtown, the Silver Cloud a short walk from the stop. Both have indoor pools, a free breakfast (and if you have a car, the Silver Cloud has free parking, a real rarity in Seattle.) South Lake Union is an interesting area for kids, with the Museum of History and Industry in the park at the end of the lake, seaplanes coming and going, lots of interesting restaurants on the lakeshore, houseboats a short walk away, and the convenience of the trolley to go to the Pike market etc. They're also usually fairly affordable by Seattle standards.

We had a recent stay at the Silver Cloud Lake Union and I can happily recommend it. I read some review comments about surly front desk staff, and on reflection, I guess they were right, but that didn't impact our stay at all. The pool is a fair size and warm, parking is free and its very close to the Science Centre and several restaurants.

Friday Harbour is on San Juan Island and it takes a day to get there from Seattle.

The Warwich is reasonably priced (for downtown Seattle) in a great location and has a nice indoor pool.

The Marriott Waterfront has a 1/2 indoor, 1/2 outdoor pool.
