Fremont Solstice Parade - where to watch

We will be driving from Seattle to San Juan Islands on June 21st and just realized this is the day for the Fremont Solstice Parade. If we can swing it, we'd love to see this. Any suggestions about where to park the car and where to view the parade? Of course, we most want to see the painted bicycle riders!

I don't know where you are staying, but your best bet is to bus rather than drive.

The streets will be lined with people and there isn't any special place from which to watch.

Traffic and parking anywhere near the parade route will be bad. As suggested I would park downtown, Ballard, in the University District, etc. & bus to Fremont. They haven't published an online map route yet, but it should be soon as it's less than 3 weeks away: fremontartscouncil.org/25th-annual-fremont-s…

Like any parade people tend to arrive early and 'claim' their spot with lawn chairs, etc. More info on the cyclists: http://www.solsticecyclist.org/

Thanks for the advice. Since we have to take the ferry to San Juan Islands that day at some point, I'm thinking we might want to park north of Fremont. Is there a good bus route from north of the area to the parade route?

Click on Northwest area. Looks to me as though you could park somewhere north and take the #5 bus to Fremont.

You are not going to be able to do it. The parade used to start in the early afternoon but they moved the start time back to 3pm. I think you would be hard pressed to see even the start and still drive 1.5 hours to Anacortes to catch a ferry. The route starts at 36th and Leary and ends at Gasworks Park. So the parade goes down 36th to Fremont place to Fremont ave then turns left on 34th to stone way where the parade turns south to north lake way to gasworks park. See fremontfair.org. There will likely be 100k plus people at the parade so the route is packed (and people line the route hours ahead of time) but typically the end of the route is the best viewing availability. I usually watch from somewhere near stone way and 34th. The organizers recommend watching from north lake way after the parade turns from 34th. Keep in mind that even if the parade starts on time at 3p the first groups won't be to northlake way until 3:30 to 4p.
