Matanuska Glacier Hike vs Exit glacier hike

We as a couple are planning on Glacier hike and are debating between matanuska and exit glacier hikes. I looked up online and the forums and found out that Exit glacier is a little difficult compared to matanuska.

Which one is better if we want to spend more time hiking on actual galcier and also which one has better view?

Are there any other glacier hikes better than these? Since we only have a day we can take only one of the hikes.

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Exit Glacier will definitely have nice views, since you need to climb a bit on the Harding Icefield Trail before you get to where you start the glacier hike.

That is impossible to answer unless you told us where you will be in Alaska. Mendenhall near Juneau and Root Glacier in Warngell/St. Elias NP come to mind but they are certainly not the only ones.

This comment confuses me since Exit Glacier and Matanuska Glacier are nowhere near each other. They are at least a 5 hour drive apart. If you are staying in Anchorage, the Exit Glacier hike as a day hike is not at all ideal. Care to share your entire itinerary? Or if you have already done that perhaps provide a link to it.

We hiked both exit and matanuska in july 2013 and felt matanuska was much better than exit glacier.

Can you give us any examples of your comparison? You might have really enjoyed one aspect and it could be important to future travelers (conditions, guide service, etc.)

Tks, Scott.

Now I am totally confused. You start a thread asking about if one is better than the other and you only had a day to do it. Then a month later you return saying Matanuska was better than Exit. You also never replied to questions that were asked of you.

Did you find more time in your itinerary to hike both? I agree with Scott - more info would be helpful. Just a simple "X is better than Y" really is not helpful to other travelers unfortunately.
