Overnight in Anchorage or Whittier

Hi,

This is our first time to Alaska and we need some advises to see as much as we could... :) We will be arriving into Anchorage on the 29th May, we cant drive and thus need shuttle service to get to Whittier on 31st May for our cruise.

This is our initial plan:

29 May: Singapore - Anchorage: Transfer to hotel to rest

30 May: Anchorage - Whittier: Shuttle to Whittier that stop over at Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, pass by Turnagain Arm (does it...?), Portage Galcier Lake, arrive Whittier at 4.30pm

31 May: Whittier: Prince William Sound cruise and then board our Princess cruise

But through research, there is no shuttle from Anchorage to Whittler on 30th May, so this means our plan is not doable now.

This is our 2nd plan:

29th May: Singapore - Anchorage: Transfer to hotel to rest

30th May: Anchorage: (we have no idea what to do...)

31st May: Anchorage - Whittier: Shuttle transfer (Conversation Park + Portage Glacier Lake) or Train to Whittler + Prince William Sound Cruise

So our questions will be:

1) what is the best way to do Turnagain Arm and Prince William Sound cruise?

2) should we take shuttle service or train to Whittier? which one is more scenic?

Thank you in advance. :)

Have you checked Magic Bus? They might operate shuttles more often than some companies because they work in conjunction with the boat tour operators for transfers between Anchorage and Whittier. I would be surprised if they only operate on cruise departure days.

I took Magic Bus from Anchorage to Whittier. They stopped for a couple of photo stops, but arrived in time to take a PWS boat tour, which I did.

For your day in Anchorage, it depends where you are staying and what your interests are. Most likely staying downtown will give you the most choices - shuttle to the Native Heritage Center, shuttle to Glen Alps for hiking, bicycle rentals, museums, etc.

As for overnight accommodations at Whittier there is the Inn at Whittier, which is nice. However, if you wish to do the PWS cruise you don't need to as take the shuttle (bus or train) to Whittier, PWS cruise, and board ship following that. The PWS cruise will hold your luggage for you free of charge and is adjacent to the cruise ship terminal
