Is it a closed base? I will be visiting anchorage in July. I went to elementary school there in the late 60s, every base I have tried to revisit are now closed.

I don't believe you can just go on base without credentials or an escort. You need to have business on base to enter the base.Even when my MIL was in the hospital at Elmendorf we needed to stop every day to get a pass and they would call the hospital to be sure we had a legitimate reason for being there.

Don't take my word for it though. I would check wit the base or at least stop at the pass office and ask, the worst they can say is no.

They are pretty strict. My husband and I went on a couple weeks ago and our 24 year son was in the RV with us. He still had to go get a pass (and be sponsored) just to ride in with us.

The only gate you can pick up a visitor pass at is the Boniface Gate. Take your car registration and insurance papers in with you.
