Mother's Day Brunch in Cambridge or Boston

My elderly mother, sister and I will be spending this coming Mother's Day in Cambridge visiting my college freshman daughter. We thought we had zeroed in on the 4 of us going to brunch at Harvest, but when I called for the reservation, I was not pleased to learn that they are raising their 3-course brunch from $35 per person to $60 per person that Sunday because it's Mother's Day. We have a preference to order from a menu rather than a buffet, would like a nice atmosphere, and a more traditional menu versus ethnic will probably work out best. I was planning on treating everyone, but all my money is going towards tuition these days so something less than $60 per person will be music to my ears! Any ideas? Thanks very much.

Try this wonderful place, known for their excellent brunch, in the Charles Hotel:

Another idea for you here is "Frank's Steakhouse" which is located at 2310 Massachusetts Ave., in No. Cambridge. You can order from their menu every day of the week here & they won't jack up the prices at all on a special holiday. You should still make reservations here just the same. They're very consistant & quite good here, it's a gem in my book. It's not just steak on their menu. They've got great choices & they're very reasonably priced here. You definitely won't break the bank, believe me (I hear you on that one, loud & clear, SO many of us are feeling it around here!)

Also, this restaurant won the "Best of Boston" Steakhouse a few times & the Phantom Gourmet gave it a thumbs up, so you know it's a good one to hit!

Check their menu to see what you think:

Have a great time!

Here are a few options:

In Harvard Square there is Grafton Street Pub (which isn't as pub-like as the name sounds). Between Harvard and Porter there is Cambridge Common and Temple Bar (the fanciest of my suggestions). And a little further down in Porter Square there is Christophers. They're all large restaurants that have brunch w/ menu ordering.

Henrietta's Table is also very good, but that's another buffet.

If you're looking for some place nicer for your Mother's Day brunch, it's going to run you those prices in Cambridge, unfortunately. Other great choices in Cambridge (still in that range) are Upstairs on the Square and Craigie on Main.

There are options for a "regular" brunch around Cambridge, like Temple Bar and Grafton St Pub, but you won't have that special of an ambiance or memorable of a meal there.

Finally, wherever you decide to go, I'd recommend making a reservation for that day.

I have no idea if they tack on a surcharge for Mother's Day, but brunch at Upstairs on the Square isn't very pricey (entrees are under $20, many under $15).

We went to Upstairs on the Square last Mother's Day, and it was lovely. We had to wait a little while for our table even though we had a reservation, but that's to be expected on a special day. Overall, I'd recommend it, but note that they too are doing the prix fixe - $50 for adults, $25 for children under 12.
