Tuscany trip

Am traveling to tuscany in 2015 and want to be central to Florence, Pisa and Siena. Is Montaione a good choice? How long to each city from there by car?

It is reasonably central to where you want to go, but it is very small and does not connect to those places by fast roads. You need to know all about ZTLs before you drive in Italy. Once you know about them you can plan your parking accordingly and drive to Siena and Pisa without too much difficulty, but I would not recommend driving to Florence. Drive somewhere else and catch the train into Florence. Read about ZTLs here:

Thank you for your feedback! Do you recommend another location?

And thanks for the information about ZTLs. Ominous!

I can't really suggest a base without knowing you or what you are looking for, but this article may help a bit:

Check out a website such as via michelin for (optimistic) driving times. Do bear in mind that small country roads are very slow.

Hello, Montaione is the heart of Tuscany.

Two closest towns which worth a so much a visit are Volterra and San Gimignano which are 20 km medium far from. And they worthy definetly a visit.

Pisa, Firenze and Lucca are 1 hour driving far from.

But don't forget to visit too the smaller villages like Certaldo, Sam Miniato, Monteriggioni, etc...

All these towns can be reached by car, which is the easiest way to move all around Tuscan coutryside. And the car really let you to discover the marvellous hills and Tuscan landscape.

The only town where I use to go by train is just Florence. Just 14 km far from Montaione you ll find Castelfiorentino town where you can get the train to Flrrnce for only 5 & per Tiket.

Regarding ztl, that is only a problem if you drive inside big towns like Flirence.

Regarding the roads, they can be winding because of the hills, but this is al so the nice part to drive in Tuscany.Afterall is defenetly so safe to drive in Tuscany.

Have a nice stay in Montaione.
