Blue Sea San Anton in April

Hi guys,

I've booked our honeymoon for April at the Blue Sea San Anton in Bugibba (all inclusive). Can anyone let us know what the hotel is like, what we can expect from the weather, the best restaurants and things to do? All help much appreciated, thanks!

Jaycee:

Answers to your questions:

1. HOTEL BLUE SEA SAN ANTON

LOCATION:

Situated 15 minutes walk to Bugibba sea front, main square and bus station. Vicinity area has many pubs/bars, restaurants and a handful of supermarket. Especially along the nearby Mosta street (Triq Mosta).

RECEPTION AREA

Very clean, and the check-in was pretty quick. There are a lot of sofas and the hotel bar is just around the corner. There are a couple of PC for internet use.

STAFF

Most are of excellent service with a smile. Except two shift receptionists who can be grumpy and unhelpful if you complaint. Nevertheless, you would eventually be treated politely if you explain the situation properly

ROOMS

Spacious, clean and all have balconies (No sea view though). The best view you can get is overlooking the pool. All rooms have TV and a safe (for hire). Chambermaids come every other day to clean the room, change the bedding and supply fresh clean towels.

Ground floor is allocated self-catering studios.

FOOD/ RESTAURANT

Breakfast is buffet style and plentiful. Bacon, scrambled eggs, sausages, baked beans and tomatoes. Fried eggs are also available if you ask the chef. Alternatively there is the usual variety of cereal, cold meat and salad & fruit breakfast. Unlimited amount of tea, coffee and orange juice.

SWIMMING POOL

A small size. This time of the year there was plenty of empty sun loungers. But expected to be crowded in summer months.

ENTERTAINMNET

Karokoes / quiz shows most nights in the hotel bar. But most guests do venture out for better greater entertainment in town

2. THE WEATHER

April is noramlly be a warm month in Malta. Not traditionally sizzling hot, You may get the odd hot days, but generally speaking they would be few and far between. The temperature would be around 25 degrees. and when the sun is out you should be able to sunbath and have a swim comfortably.

3.RESTAURANTS / THINGS TO DO

The hotel is located about 15 minutes to the beach and main Bugibba Square. In this area there many bars and restaurants. Not too far wasy, a further 5 minutes walk you would get to Tourist Street, Along this street you will find many more restaurants and English style pubs most do have night or evening entertainment,

If you let me know of what you like and what intererts, then perhaps I can give specific information.

In Tourist Street you will also find the main bus station.

You will also find strolling in evenings along the sea front promenade very nice, especially around sunset!!!

FINALLY,

Got your self a 7 days bus pass for 12 euros. With that you will have the freedom to use any bus to any where in main land Malta, at anytime and as often as like for 7 days. There are many lovely to explore. Valletta, Sliema, Mosta, Mellieha, Rabat and Marxalokk are all lovely towns that you must visit.

Cheers

Thanks a lot, Cas. You've covered just about everything! One more question: which excursions do you recommend? Specifically cruises/boat tours to Gozo and Comino.

John,

Both Gozo and Comino are worth at least a day out (May be an overnight stay for Gozo). Here is a brief description of each and how to get there:

GOZO

Take bus no 122 from Bugibba to Cirkewwa. Journey time about 45 minutes. Cirkewwa is a ferry terminal which link Gozo to main land Malta. The ferries are pretty frequent and the crossing takes less than 1 hour and costs €18. Your first port of call is Mgarr harbour. From there, well is pretty much up to you because Gozo has everything!! Culture, history, wild life and some beautiful beaches. Most popular towns are Victoria, Xlendi and Marsalfron. But there are places off the beaten path which require a lot time to explore. Best to buy a day bus pass and get off and on as you fancy.

COMINO

Take the bus no 122 from Bugibba to Mellieha (the town before Cirkewwa), but get off at the Mellieha bay. Ask for Melleiha Jetty (small marina). From there are daily boats trip to Comino, leaving about 10:45 and getting back about 17:00. There are two trip company operating to Comino. OH YEAH Cruise and THE ENGLISH ROSE BOAT. Both charge €12 for the day.

The cruise starts by sailing away from main land Malta and stops for few minutes at many beautiful and breath taking sea caves before arriving in the Blue Lagoon for what I can describe as sheer paradise. The sea water is blue and very inviting. It is an absolute paradise for swimmers, divers and sunbather. You will have about 4 hours to spend at this sport at your leisure. On the way back, again the boats stops for some more sceneries, before docking at the Crystal Lagoon for an hour for more swimming, snorkelling or just wondering around the beautiful and inhabited rocky landscape.

In my book, this is a trip that must be included in anyone plans when visiting Malta. It sure will be a lasting & unforgettable experience. Comino is almost inhabited, apart for an exclusive and private hotel in Santa Monica part of island. That what makes it an unspoilt landscape.

I am sure you will enjoy either of these places. I know I did, and came back to both many more times after.

Cheers

Some good information from Cas.

Gozo is very different to Malta and is well worth a visit.

Just one thing though ----- the ferry fare for a foot passenger is only 4.65 euro and you only pay on the return. Going to Gozo you just get on the boat .

Enjoy your stay

Graham
