Off airport parking with shuttle to international terminal

We are flying Southwest Airlines roundtrip from ATL to Cancun in November. Last November we did the same trip but flew on Delta & used a stay, park, fly option at Hampton Inn. Luckily, our shuttle driver did drop us off at the international terminal even though the hotel said that they only provided transportation to the domestic terminal. Upon return to the international terminal we had to take the airport shuttle to the domestic terminal & then wait again for the hotel shuttle to pick us up which added more than an hour to our already long day. We would like to avoid this happening again. We will be staying at an airport hotel the night before departure to CUN regardless whether any policies have changed that would allow hotel shuttle drop-off/pick-up at the international terminal. First choice would be hotel with stay, park, fly that does provide shuttle drop-off/pick-up at international terminal. 2nd choice would be an off airport parking lot with secured parking that provides shuttle drop-off/pick-up at the international terminal. 3rd choice would be a "decent" hotel near international terminal and taking a cab to/from the international terminal. Could ATL experts please offer your opinions either through the forum or through a PM with your thoughts/recommendations/approximate price for parking lots/cabs. Thanks so much!

As far as know, there are no hotels that provide shuttle service to the International Terminal, and I suspect that you just got lucky with your previous flight. Part of the issue is space - the International Terminal is just not set up to handle the volume of traffic that would be generated by allowing every hotel and off-site parking service to run shuttles back and forth. It's far easier to manage this by directing all that traffic to the existing facilities at the Domestic Terminal, and then provide shuttle service between the two terminals. The inter-terminal shuttle only takes about 15 minutes, so not sure why it cost you an extra hour on your previous trip.

The quickest way to get from the International Terminal to your hotel is to take a taxi, but of course that will cost more. Alternatively, you could do a Park/Sleep/Fly at one of the two Marriott properties (Gateway or Springhill Suites) that is serviced by the free Sky Train. You would still have to get back to the Domestic Terminal, but at least you would not have to wait on the hotel shuttle - the Sky Train runs more frequently and only takes a couple of minutes to get to those hotels.

FYI, most of us who live in Atlanta do not use hotel shuttles to get to and from the airport, so we would not necessarily know which ones provide any sort of regular service to the terminals. I personally park directly at the airport for any trip up to 2-3 days duration, and take MARTA for anything longer than that. You'd have to check the individual hotel websites or (better yet) call them directly to confirm which ones provide shuttle service and to which terminal(s).

Most parking shuttles, like Peachy Parking, drop off at and pick up from the international terminal. That's what I always do.

This is one the biggest advantages to flying out of ATL on Delta, IMO. I don't fly internationally that often, but my last two trips were made much easier by being able to check in (and check bags) at the Domestic Terminal.

Thanks, all - since previous post I have done more research and it looks like Peachy Airport Parking provides a shuttle to/from international terminal - can anyone confirm? Several hotels within 2 miles of their site so looks like we can drive a few minutes the morning of the flight out & let Peachy handle everything from there. Over $600 savings for us - 2 couples - by driving 4 hours to ATL from home in northeast TN vs using our local (1-1/2 hr drive) airport. We have frequently done this but last year was first time with new international terminal. JimGinAtlanta - we too were puzzled by last year's lengthy transfer time except that it appeared several international flights arrived at same time so wait for shuttle to domestic was lengthy and then our hotel's shuttle was "in the shop" and they had another hotel's shuttle helping out which meant another lengthy wait because van was full. We actually view the night before the flight as an extra day of vacation but when we get back to the states prefer to get headed home in a reasonable length of time.

As mentioned in my earlier post, yes, Peachy has a shuttle to the international terminal. You'll need to use the indoor lot and I recommend making a reservation.
