What money in Turkey?

We are going to the greenland hotel near Hisaronu on Sat, all inclusive. What money should we take, its only going to be for a few gifts or lunch if we pop out for the day etc. We keep being told different storied about being ripped off if we change £s into lira. Do they not just want us to spend lira, obviously the exchange rate isnt too great at the mo. Thanks for reading.

Of course not, you can pay in lira without being ripped off, only in Hisarönü as many other places people are just as happy with Sterling, Euros and Dollars, in the end of the day it is all money. The exchange rate is good at the moment, about 2,82 TL to the £.

Many places the prices are in pounds on the tags and menus, because Hisarönü is very British orientated.

Enjoy your holiday!

We're just back from H, we always take sterling and change at the Exchange office on the right handside before the barrier in Hisaronu, never had any problems being 'ripped off'. Nearly everywhere will take sterling including the market infact quite a few of the shops ask if you want to pay turkish or english.

Confusion may arise if you pay in english and get change in lira, take a small calculator and work out the change given current rate then you know its ok.

If you pay for goods in Sterling you can almost guarantee that you will at least feel ripped off. The exchange rate will be poor to say the least. Better to change Sterling at somewhere like Ozgold in the centre of H. I've heard worrying tales about even the official exchange offices skimming notes and short changing at conversion time. That will not happen at the place I mention above.

Must stress I have no connection with them - just a very happy customer over the years.
