Hopefully someone will answer this. If they don't, try posting on the Road Trips forum (many people don't know this forum exists). Also, what would you like to know about the trip?

We did it five years ago. We left the Custer area and drove to Great Falls, MT-probably about an 8 1/2 hour drive without stops, and then the next morning drove into Glacier, I believe via Browning. I confess I don't remember the exact route-just plugged it into Mapquest or the GPS. Beautiful if not somewhat isolated drive-make sure to stop for gas, bathrooms, and food when you see a place. Great Falls was a good choice for an overnight-bigger town and we stocked up on groceries for Glacier there-much cheaper than the towns surrounding Glacier. We stayed our first night at Glacier Park Lodge (beautiful but a bit outdated and overpriced), the next night at the Village Inn at Apgar (our favorite-right on the lake-gorgeous!) and then two nights at Swiftcurrent in the motel (very basic but great location for hiking and seeing moose in the nearby lakes). When are you thinking of going? Keep in mind that the Going to the Sun road generally isn't 100% open until the end of June. We went around the 3rd week of July-weather was good and crowds not bad-doesn't seem to get as crowded as other National parks. If you're planning on going this year, you may be a little late getting lodging in the park but if nothing is available online try calling directly, and maybe every day, as there are always cancellations. We prefer staying in the park and moving around but there are also lodging options outside the park. I would love to stay at Many Glacier on our next trip. Like Glacier Lodge I think the rooms are outdated but wow, what a pretty hotel and setting.

Perfect. Find out how soon ahead of time you can book lodging-I think we booked in January for our July trip and pretty much got what we wanted but some properties were sold out-if you can book a year in advance I'd do it. We've also been to Yellowstone 3 times and also went there after Glacier last time-not sure if you've been there before and I'm no expert but if you have any questions that I can try to answer please ask-one of my favorite topics!
