Fox and Frantz glaciers - ice walk without heli

Is it available as a guided tour without a heli ? Is there a possibility to rent equipment and take the guide to walk on snow/ice without a heli flight and landing?

Absolutely not. Climbing onto the terminal face of both glaciers has been banned for a number of years due to the instability of the ice. Helos can get people over the terminal face onto the stable neve.

Short answer is No. A few years ago you could do a walk on the glaciers without requiring a helictoper and both franz and fox guiding companies did the walks. However, the terminal faces of the glaciers are extremely unstable and dangerous and it is no longer possible. A couple of tourists were killed when tonnes of ice broke off the terminal face. the tourists had gone over the barriers to the terminal face, but the result is that you cannot get close to the terminal face and can only view from a distance. The heli hike is the only way for tourists to get onto the glacier and be able to explore, as the heli lands some distance up the glacier.
