East coast of Texas

Heading to Houston for Volleyball tournament.....the beginning of April. Plan to leave early and visit a Texas beach prior to playing. Any recommendations for nice beach, warmest weather (I assume further south) and things to do in the evenings....... Do you consider South Padre safe? Have read varying reports on this area. Am thinking about the PA area .......would be closer drive back to Houston. Any advise is appreciated!! Thanks SS

All of the beaches are safe. The Spring break season will be winding down by April. Galveston is the closest to Houston and my least favorite. Houston to South Padre Island is about 370 miles or 5 and a half hours of driving, but is my favorite.

Thanks for the quick response! Ok if we arrive Saturday and have to be back in Houston on Thursday......that leaves us 4 beach days. Is that worth the drive or would there be enough in Port Aransas for us do to......as well as nice beaches. Just trying to make the best of the time that we have there. Also, is it warm enough in PA beginning of April or should we go further south???!!!

The diff in temp between north and south padre is only a few degrees, we are about 3 hours south from houston in corpus christi (north padre island) and about 2 hours north from South Padre Island Temps can vary in the spring- April can be in the 60's or 80's but there will always be lots of wind!

South Padre a very long drive from Houston if you only have 4 days. Plenty to keep you occupied in the Port Aransas/Corpus Christi area. Temps should be plenty warm.
