Balloon Fiesta without a car?

My camera and I are coming this year - I am so excited! I can only do the first weekend, and am on a tight budget - would like to not bother with a car rental.

Unfortunately the Fiesta website says the Shuttle schedule/route will not be posted until August! Obviously I need to get a room reserved before then.

If there are some folks here who know what some of the shuttle stops were in the last few event years, I would really like to know. I'd hate to reserve a room to find out I'm 3 miles from the shuttle. I don't mind getting up pre-dawn a couple of days for a special event like this, but having to take a hike on top may be a little much!

Any feedback or suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated. TIA.

Here's a link to last year's info, usually the park and ride places are the same every year.

They have shuttles that leave from various locations to the balloon fiesta. Are you close to Coronado Mall? In about Aug they should post where the shuttles leave from to the balloon grounds.

If you only have 1 day, I would recommend the balloon fiest mass ascension in the morning, and definitely find time and take the Sandia Tram-Way to the top of the mountain. This is the worlds longest aerial tram-way, and a great experience. Once at the top, take your time and hike around 'till your hearts content. There is a restraunt up top for which I do not particularly like the food, but it's nice to stop for a beer before heading back down.

As far as finding hotels, this can be difficult as rooms book up pretty fast... though I'm a little suprised they would be booked up already at this point. Depending on your budget, I would look into the Sandia Casino and Resort; it's real nice, and if you're into golf, they have one of the nicest courses I've played around here. Otherwise, there is an abundance of accomodations all over town; you may also want to consider the Hotel Albuquerque near Old Town, the Hyatt Downtown, or Marriot or Sheraton Uptown.

If you're looking for a gem, consider the Los Poblanos Inn on Rio Grande Blvd. This is a wonderful little place in one of the pretiest areas of town.
