? about passing through Albuquerque during balloon fiesta

We will be driving form the Bernalillo to Paa Ko Ridge golf course via Albuquerque on Saturday morning, October 13. The balloon festival schedule for the day includes Mass Ascension at 7:00. Will traffic be slow or a problem if we are driving through at around 7:30 am? (It looks like the best route is I-25 to 40.) Will we be able to see the balloons from the highway?

You should see plenty of balloons from the interstate, particularly between Bernalillo and the Paseo Del Norte exit in Albuquerque. Of course, much can depend on which way the wind is going. If the "box" is in effect, it'll be fantastic...if everyone is blowing off to the West, you'll still see some, but not as much.

Traffic shouldn't be too bad by 7:30, particularly if you're sticking to the interstate. Most people are already at the park...maybe a few stragglers, but that will mostly impact surface streets like Alameda Blvd or Tramway Blvd. Keep in mind though, you will have more looky-loos and people being distracted on the roads in general...driving slower than normal...not paying attention to what lane they're in, etc. Just be a good defensive driver and be mindfull of everyone else that is looking at the balloons.

You may see some people pulled over on the side of the interstate, particularly as you approach Tramway and Alameda exits...don't do this...you will end up with a nice pink ticket if you do, it's illegal.
