Alternative to the Tram

Coming in to ABQ for a long birthday weekend. The tram is closed for fall maintenance while we are there. Is there an alternative to getting to the top? Or should we skip it?

You can drive up via SR 14, which is part of Turquoise Trail. Great views. There can be snow, so check road conditions, otherwise road is very doable.

We have never taken the Tram as my Wife isn't comfortable on them, we just drive to the top.

See tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g47202-d21… and fhwa.dot.gov/byways/byways/2094/photos/all and www.fhwa.dot.gov/byways/byways/2094/maps

The drive actually takes you all the way to the top above the Tram stop, there is a Cafe/Gift Shop and Restrooms. Just be careful as the walkways are not maintained in the winter also when you get above the snowline the road up can be snow and or ice covered, we have never had a problem, just drive carefully and enjoy the views.

One small thing to mention is that it's $3 to park at the top, placed into an envelope so you need cash. There is a gift shop where you can break a larger bill, but at least while I was there it saw someone who only had a credit card and he had to buy something to get the money. Still a small price to pay for an amazing place.
