Trail Ridge Road??

What's this Trail Ridge Rd I keep hearing about? It sounds pretty hairy. Are we talking a one lane unpaved road?

Trail Ridge Rd. is the road that run through Rocky Mnt. Nat. Park from Estes Park to Grand Lake. It's a 2 lane road and near the top it does get a bit narrow, but it's not scary.

They keep the speed limit very slow through the top so people don't fly around corners and wind up going off the road. It has been closed on and off over the past week or so due to snow and bad weather conditions at the top, but overall, it's a very safe and beautiful road!

Thanks for the info. I feel better now. Darn flat landers.

The one-way gravel road is Old Fall River Road. It's not even that bad; you just need to keep it slow and careful. It usually doesn't open until the Fourth of July weekend, if it is cleared by then. Hopefully it will be this year.

Sounds like we lucked out by being there on 6/6/09. Road was open and we took photos of our boys on the side of the road with the snow about 5 or 6 feet above their heads. The photos we took with digital camera at the top of the stairs at the Alpine Visitor Center did not come out, nor did the photo at the continental divide. Later that day we hiked to Nymph Lake and Dream Lake and there was snow. So much that one could not get to Emerald Lake. We loved it.
